4 Things You Need to Know About Invisalign

Since its introduction, Invisalign has taken the orthodontic community by storm. Finally, there is an orthodontic solution that allows patients to achieve a straighter, healthier smile without the use of unsightly and uncomfortable metal braces. If you’re considering your options for straightening your teeth and are wondering if Invisalign is right for you, continue reading for 4 things you need to know about Invisalign before pursuing treatment.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a revolutionary teeth aligning system that is completed with the use of clear aligner trays.

Traditionally, metal brackets would be attached to the teeth and connected with a metal wire. Over time, the wires would be tightened in order to pull the teeth in the ideal direction. This process can be extremely painful, and can be a major source of embarrassment for the person wearing the braces.

Invisalign aligns the teeth with the use of an entire set of clear aligning trays that are virtually invisible. These trays are usually worn for about two weeks at a time. After the two weeks has ended, the patient is given their next set of trays, which are slightly altered just enough to help guide the teeth in their ideal position.

Not only does this eliminate pain and discomfort, but it eliminates the stigmas that surround traditional braces, as well.

No Diet Restrictions

Traditional braces require significant changes to be made in the patient’s diet in order to ensure that there is no chance of the brackets breaking or having food stuck between them. This can be a very difficult aspect of treatment for many people. Thankfully, Invisalign does not require any changes to be made to the diet, as the trays can easily be removed while eating.

Treatment

To begin your Invisalign treatment, a 3D scan will be taken of your mouth to record the positioning and development of the teeth. Impressions will be taken. From these impressions, your first set of trays will be made. You will wear this set of trays for two weeks before returning for your next set.

Each tray is designed to focus on shifting just a few teeth at a time to ensure that the teeth are positioned exactly as they should be. The entire Invisalign process usually takes about 12 months; your treatment time will be dependent on the amount of shifting that is required in the mouth to achieve an aligned smile.

A More Confident You

Traditional metal braces have earned themselves a bit of a bad name over the years, and can be a major source of embarrassment or low self-esteem.

Invisalign’s thin trays are designed to be barely noticeable, allowing you to show off your smile with confidence. Gone are the days of sacrificing confidence during orthodontic treatment; Invisalign is designed to promote a happier, more confident you while pursuing treatment.
